WILD LIFE IN MONGOLIA

We explore some of the most remote regions of North West Mongolia to photograph the intact local culture, landscape and wildlife. We will spend time photographing and visiting the homes of the eagle hunters and nomadic herders.

EAGLE HUNTERS

For centuries the nomadic Kazakh people in Northern Mongolia have developed and nurtured a special bond with golden eagles. During the winter months the eagle hunters ride on horseback and use their golden eagles to hunt fox, hares and sometimes even wolves.

What our guests have to say about this experience…

“Just returned from a photography trip to Mongolia, organised and lead by Chris McLennan. I cannot praise Chris highly enough for what was the trip of a lifetime. Chris' organisational and leadership skills coupled with photography expertise that is second to none, made for the most amazing experience. Mongolia is a wonderful country. But travelling with Chris and having the opportunity to learn from him was very special. I shall certainly be looking to travel with him again. Exceptional! - Neil G.

CULTURE

According to archeological evidence, Mongolia has been inhabited for over 800,000 years. A large portion of Mongolians are nomadic, shifting their home to new locations based on the weather and needs of their herds. As we travel through the remote regions of Northwest Mongolia we will be welcomed into the Gers of these nomadic herders as if you are a long-time friend.

WILDLIFE

During our trip, these are some of the species we may encounter - Przewalski’s Wild Horse, Asian Wapiti, Mongolian Gazelle, Ibex, Argali Sheep, Alpine Pikas, Grey Wolf (elusive), Pallas Cat (elusive), Corsac Fox, Red Fox, Tolai Hare, Golden Eagle, Cinereous Vulture, Bearded Vulture, Saker Falcon, Pere David’s Snowfinch, Daurian Partridge, Chukar, Upland Buzzard, Horned Lark, Pallas Sandgrouse, Henderson’s Groundjay, Whooper Swan

Whilst we have increased the chance of a snow leopard sighting by visiting in the winter, seeing these elusive “ghost cats” is certainly never guaranteed. Whilst we are out shooting we will have local trackers in the field in multiple locations searching.

OUR CAMPS

We stay in remote camps with a mix of traditional ger and cabin accommodations whilst we explore the far corners of Mongolia. The campsites are real gems located in the authentic wilderness, surrounded by sublime scenery. The average altitude of the camps and surroundings is 2,000 m above sea level. Our remote camps provide clean and comfortable accommodation with twin beds. The toilets are in a private area of the campsite. There will be washing facilities but no showers in the remote camps due to cold winter temperatures and our expedition seeing us experience the true authenticity of remote Mongolia. Our camp stays are broken up with a comfortable hotel and hot showers in between.
